What is a sand filter backwash?
A filter backwash is an essential part of your hot tub's water maintenance. It's needed to remove accumulated dirt from your sand filter. The water flowing through your filter leaves behind dirt, hair and dead skin cells in the filter sand. When this dirt builds up, the filter's effectiveness decreases. Compare it to your vacuum cleaner's filter: if you don't clean it, the vacuum cleaner works a lot less well. A backwash flushes this dirt out of the sand, so your filter can once again optimally
clean your hot tub water.
How do you perform a filter backwash?
1. Switch off the filter system.
2. Open the black cap and attach the backwash hose to the filter using
the supplied clamp. Place the hose in a suitable spot, as a lot of
water will come out.
3. Set the filter to the ‘Backwash’ position and switch the filter system back on. The water will
now flow outside through the backwash hose.
4. Let the water flow for about 60 seconds, or until it runs completely clear.
5. Switch off the system and set the filter to the ‘Rinse’ position.
6. Switch the system back on and let the water run for about 30 seconds.
Then switch off the system again.
7. Remove the backwash hose and put the black cap back on.
8. Set the filter to the ‘Filter’ position and switch the system back on.
