How often should you change the water in the hot tub?
How often you need to change the water depends on several factors. If you use a filter system, you generally need to replace the water much less often than without one. Usage also plays a big role: business or intensive use requires more frequent water changes than purely private use.
Tip to change the water less often: Check out here our maintenance products or our blog about water care.
Changing hot tub water for private use
When the hot tub is used exclusively for private purposes, the water needs to be changed less often. In most cases, once every 2 to 3 months is sufficient. This only applies to hot tubs with a properly functioning filter system and correct water maintenance. Take good care of the water by using the right maintenance products and letting the water circulate regularly by running the filter pump. Some filters have a built-in timer. If yours doesn't, you can use a smart wifi plug to control the filter automatically or remotely. The minimum recommended filter time is 8 hours per day.
Private use, no filter
Warm, still and untreated water forms an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Therefore, it's best to change the water after every use and thoroughly clean the hot tub shell afterwards. Even when using maintenance products, the water is generally treated less effectively without filter circulation. The reverse is also true: a filter system alone is not enough, since a filter by itself has no disinfecting effect.

Changing hot tub water for business use
To guarantee maximum hygiene and safety, we recommend changing the water after every guest and cleaning the hot tub, even with a filtration system in place. This ensures maximum clean and clear water for the next guests. If there's no filter present, it's best to advise guests to change the water after every use.
