Enjoying your hot tub in winter
As soon as temperatures drop, your hot tub needs a little extra attention to prevent damage from freezing. Whether you use your hot tub regularly or want to shut it down for a while: with the right preparation, you can keep enjoying your hot tub worry-free in winter.
Water circulation
If you want to keep enjoying your hot tub in winter, it's important that the water keeps moving. Circulation prevents the water in the pipes or filter from freezing. If temperatures stay below zero for a longer period, let the filter system run continuously. If you don't have a filter system but use the hot tub regularly, you generally don't need to worry about freezing. With regular use, the water doesn't cool down fast enough to freeze. However, if you leave the hot tub standing with still water for a longer period, there is a risk of freezing.
Massage jets
Does your hot tub have a massage system or jets? These pipes are more sensitive to standing water. It's therefore wise to briefly switch on this system a few times a day. This blows any early ice formation out of the pipes and keeps everything functioning properly.
Insulation for less heat loss
All our hot tubs come standard with a thick layer of insulation around the entire tub. This insulation ensures the water cools down much more slowly, even during cold winter days. A well-insulating cover is essential in this regard, as it helps retain heat when the hot tub is not in use. Together, the insulation layer and cover ensure optimal heat retention all year round.
What should I do if I'm not using the hot tub?
If you're not going to use the hot tub for a while, it's important to prepare it properly for winter. Drain the hot tub completely and remove the filter system. It's best to store this system indoors, in a dry, frost-free place.
Then briefly (about 3 to 5 seconds) switch on the massage system to blow the remaining water out of the pipes. This prevents water from being left behind that could freeze and cause damage. Also, don't forget to clean the inside of the hot tub with a soft cloth and mild detergent.
Don't forget to also drain the water from the wood-fired stove. This prevents leftover water from staying behind and freezing in the stove or pipes. With an internal wood-fired stove, you drain the water from both the hot tub and the stove by opening the red tap; an external stove has a separate tap on the back for this.
